Rick Mach, a native of New York, N.Y., began his career at age 23 when he started a weekly newspaper in Aspen, Colo., gaining recognition for his cartoon strips and ads called "The Aspen Funnies."
In recent years he has also focused on children, teaching school drawing workshops and after-school enrichment programs in a dozen states including, most recently, The Rollings School of the Arts in Summerville, SC. During this time, he was also an "illustrating storyteller," drawing the stories as he told them. He has written and illustrated children's books for organizations and corporations. His book,"How to Remember to Dial 9-1-1 In an Emergency" was recently distributed free by area firemen and police to over 30,000 children in schools and neighborhoods in the Lowcountry. He has also created a book for the Charleston Clean City Commission and the Cooper River Bridge Run Kid's run.
Rick was the artist invited to draw the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge Ceremonies Live
After a break from drawing – ( a couple of years!). I was overcome with the desire to sketch a person. My daughter was just the subject and was happy to pose while I tried to remember how to shade again.
